2002 Tour Summary
| The 2002 Lightfoot
touring year
began like so many others, but ended like no other, abruptly in his
hometown
of Orillia before the second concert in as many evenings in early
September
when he succumbed to a rare abdominal ailment and was flown to Hamilton
by air ambulance prior to the Saturday concert. After several
surgeries,
he began a long recovery until being released from hospital in
mid-December,
leaving future touring plans uncertain.
The year began in March in Nevada, before heading east. The tour took a break in May. He resumed the tour in August, before the untimely finish in September. In all he performed 42 concerts in 33 cities, with 20 concerts being cancelled after his illness, including the year ending dates at Massey Hall in Toronto. Notable additions to this year's setlists included Ode To Big Blue, Spanish Moss and Drifters, with one time only appearances for Cherokee Bend and Whispers Of The North! Dropped from 2001 were The House You Live In; Summertime Dream; Knotty Pine; I Used To Be A Country Singer and Heaven Don't Deserve Me. Christian Island; I'll Do Anything; Morning Glory and Fading Away made only one appearance each. Openers were again split between Sea Of Tranquility and Triangle, with All The Lovely Ladies and Drifters doing the honors on a few occasions each. Encores included Old Dan's Records, Cold On The Shoulder, Early Morning Rain, Canadian Railroad Trilogy and Blackberry Wine. The No Hotel was the only unreleased song played this year, until the final night when two new songs, Harmony and Couchiching were introduced, which gave us a tantalizing taste of what might have been in store the rest of the year had the tour not been brought to an abrupt end. The other two new songs played throughout 2001, Nighttime and Shellfish were not played in 2002. There were 52 different songs performed during the year. Once again two albums were entirely shut out, Back Here On Earth and Endless Wire. |
SONG
SUMMARY BY ALBUM
Here are
how the setlists break down by album.
| All of this information is based on a sample of 28 out of a possible 42 setlists that were available for the tour, so if anyone heard anything that isn't listed here, I'd be more than happy to add the song to the list. In brackets following the song is the number of times the song appeared in the 28 setlists to give you an idea of their frequency. |
