2006 Tour Summary
| In his second full
touring year since his recovery from his illness in 2002, Lightfoot
played 53 concerts in 40 cities throughout the US and Canada over the
course of 2006, an increase of 17 concerts over 2005. He began the
touring year in January, playing 6 Ontario dates, followed by a Florida
run in February. A brief Vegas sojourn in May, was a prelude to the
tour resuming in earnest in late July in the midwest, east and west of
the US through August and portions of September, before undertaking his
first western Canadian tour since 1999 in October, then wrapping up the
year at Massey Hall in November. One concert was cancelled, the second
night in Harris, MI due to safety concerns because of structural damage
at an outdoor tent venue. Lightfoot employed an opening act for 5 concerts in September to relieve his workload after having some trouble with a couple of fingers on his right (picking) hand, but by Milwaukee he had recovered to the point where he was again back to doing his full 2 set concerts. In all he performed 17 "casino" style shows out of the 53 total concerts. Openers were alternated exclusively between Cotton Jenny and Triangle, with Sea Of Tranquility doing the honours on one occasion. It marked the first time since mid 1996 that Lightfoot opened his concerts on the 12 string guitar, which had been his practice up until that time. Only one song from Harmony survived the full year, that being Clouds Of Loneliness. Couchiching and the title track were played during the first half of the year, but essentially disappeared from setlists when the tour resumed in late July. There was no new or previously unreleased material performed in 2006. There were 41 different songs performed over the course of the year. As has usually been the case, Shadows continued to be the most drawn upon album, garnering 127 performances spread among 6 of its songs. Two studio albums were again entirely shut out, Did She Mention My Name and Salute. |
