2009 Tour Summary
| One more successful
year on the road has been completed for the legendary troubadour.
Lightfoot
played 74 concerts in 66 cities throughout the US and Canada over the
course of 2009, twelve more concerts than in 2008. He's not showing any
signs of slowing down! He
began the year in March in Texas, working his way through the central
US until wrapping up the month in Minnesota. April found him
exclusively in Canada, working his way from the west coast back to
Ontario. In May he toured the US southeast and did a brief northest run
in June, highlighted by another stop at New York's Town Hall. July saw
him start in the Great Lakes states, moving quickly to the east coast
again. His most ambitious run was in October, which saw him tour the US
west extensively the entire month, before wrapping up the year at his
home town of Orillia, then on to yet another triumphant stand at Massey
Hall in Toronto. He performed 8 one-set "casino" style shows
out of the 74 total
concerts, the remainder of the concerts being two sets with
intermission. Openers were alternated exclusively between Cotton Jenny, Did She Mention My Name and Triangle. Three songs were rotated for the encore, including Blackberry Wine, Song For A Winter's Night, and the ever reliable Old Dan's Records, with Early Morning Rain doing the honors on a few occasions. Some older songs back in rotation were Did She Mention My Name this time not as part of a medley, but in complete form on its own. Christian Island was newly added this year, but played only one time. Eleven songs were performed at every concert - Ribbon Of Darkness; Sundown; Shadows; Beautiful; The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald; Carefree Highway; 14 Karat Gold; A Painter Passing Through; Restless; Baby Step Back; and If You Could Read My Mind. When Did She Mention My Name was introduced into the setlists in the fall, it bumped Cotton Jenny; Hangdog Hotel Room and Triangle out on a few nights, otherwise they seemed destined to be played at every concert. There were no new or previously
unreleased songs performed in 2009. The album Shadows was once again the
most drawn upon source for material, both in terms of different songs
utilized and
total unique plays. There were 43 different songs
performed over the course of the year, harvested from nineteen of his
twenty studio albums, leaving only one studio album
entirely shut
out, that being Salute. |
