2012 Tour Summary
Lightfoot continues to continue on the road. Another year, another 51 concerts in 45 cities. Multiple nights in Ottawa and two concerts in one day as a benefit in Orillia and the requisite 4 night stand at Massey Hall to close out the year. The touring began in January in Atlanta for a southeast run, a one night April appearance at Casino Rama, followed by a northeast leg in May. June saw Lightfoot and the band do a brief Ontario tour, with a side trip to Montreal. The guys took the summer off, before resuming in New York in September for run that went as far as the mid west and dipped into the mid Atlantic states. The year culminated at Massey Hall in November.
There were only 2 casino style concerts this year, although the two concerts in one day in Orillia were of the one set casino style. The remaining 47 concerts were two sets with intermission.
Openers again included Sweet Guinevere, Did She Mention My Name and Triangle, with the one time inclusion of The House You Live In. Encores were quite varied, Old Dan's Records, Blackbery Wine, Rainy Day People, In My Fashion, Song For A Winter's Night and Cold On The Shoulder became the popular closer late in the year. The setlists had a big overhaul when Lightfoot returned in September from his summer vacation. Gone were Home From The Forest, If Children Had Wings, 14 Karat Gold and now being added were All The Lovely Ladies, I'd Rather Press On, Wild Strawberries, Drink Yer Glasses Empty, Race Among The Ruins and topping off the year at Massey Hall were live performances of Circle Of Steel! The reconfigured setlists from September onward gave the concerts an added shot of energy that was much appreciated.
There were no new or previously
unreleased songs performed in 2012. Not since the pre-illness days of
2002 has new material been introduced in concert.
The album Shadows was once again the
most drawn upon source for material, both in terms of different songs
total unique plays.
There were 50 different songs
performed over the course of the year, up from 43 in 2011, taken from
eighteen of his
twenty studio albums, leaving only two studio albums
out, that again being Back Here On Earth and Salute.
